{Travel} St Thomas vs St Thomas

I have, admittedly, never learned much about St Thomas. I didn’t think I would ever make it there, so I didn’t look into it. [Poor excuse, I know!]

When we booked this cruise, the only idea I had of St Thomas was the bright blue beaches in ads, like this.

They DO have beautiful beaches, but that’s not most of what the islanders see. We tried to book an excursion to Honeymoon Beach, but for some reason they moved it to the morning and it conflicted with our Dolphin Swim.

In the end, it was fine, because it rained allll afternoon! I mean rained!

But we did get a 30 minute drive through downtown, over the mountain, and to the other side of the island to Coral World. It was actually really cool experience to get to see so much of the island.

I think I caught a couple bickering 🤪

There were so many arched doors, brickwork, and reminded me of New Orleans.

Coming down the “mountain” viewing the city.
Another view out to the sea.
There are many walls with graffiti. I liked that this one had a Bible verse.
The road was vary narrow over the “mountain.” I tried to capture the cages of chickens in the trees but I missed them.

The cemeteries were also very similar to NOLA.

The gas prices were what you would expect:

I would like to go back some time. I feel like we barely got to know any of it. There are many “black lives matter” and “black utopia” signs everywhere, many that also talk about being free from (the USA? It was unclear). I don’t know what the main source of income would be without tourism, but I’m interested to find out.

Happy day friends!
