{races} Cookie Chase 5k Race #49

The night before started rough: hubby had food poison and threw up all night. He tried to get up and get ready (I thought he was crazy) but by the time he was dressed he realized he couldn’t possibly run a race. He went back to bed, we headed out for the race. Two of my older teens volunteered for the race, and the two youngest had trained for the run. For training, hubby would run with them for a…

{Races} Mickelson Trail Half Marathon Race #48

{Races} Mickelson Trail Half Marathon Race #48

What a great race! It felt amazing to finally be with a group of people unafraid and untainted by government and media. Though there were about a dozen mask wearers, the other 1,970ish were displaying their imago dei and it was glorious. It was our first time on this run. We had walked about 2.5 miles of the trail last year with the girls to see one of the train tunnels. I was hooked! I knew I wanted to run…

{Races} Memorial Day 10K Race #47

{Races} Memorial Day 10K Race #47

This was our first year running this race. We’ve run the Bolder Boulder on Memorial weekend a few times, but we decided to find races that better fit the mission of helping veterans. You can find this one at: MEMORIAL DAY RUN & MARCH | To help feed homeless Veterans (memorialdaymarch.com) It was a very sunny morning and HOT! I felt for the men and women in uniform, it was toasty and humid. It was also rather hilly. It was…

{Races} Barr Lake 15K Race #46

{Races} Barr Lake 15K Race #46

It was hot and muddy, but we got it done. Race Number 46 (for me) complete! The rain was so loud last night, we woke up at 3 a.m. to see the pouring rain filling up the street. The forecast had called for just a smattering of rain, but this was a downpour! The entire race is groomed trail, so I had imagined it more like a mud run. As soon as we arrived to pick up our shirts and…

{Running} April running & Race #45

{Running} April running & Race #45

We had a big half marathon planned for April in Kansas City: The Garmin Oz marathon. A few weeks before we were to run, we got an email they were postponing the half marathon because they couldn’t have the finish line celebration they wanted. Unfortunately, they pushed it to the first weekend in November, which didn’t allow our girls to participate in the race. We were disappointed, but asked for a refund and then had the girls’ entries switched to…

{Outdoor Life} Race #44

{Outdoor Life} Race #44

Today was race number 44 for me since October 2013. It was supposed to be a 7K, but it measured at 4.24 miles. I really don’t understand how they couldn’t move the finish line ONE-TENTH of a mile (they did warn it was a 7K-ISH) so that it could fit in with my previous 5 races of 7K distance (including this very race we ran last year when this one was forced to be virtual). This is my second race…

{Outdoor Life} Spring Running

{Outdoor Life} Spring Running

In Colorado, we get most of our snow in March and April, especially on the front range. The weather people are predicting 12-24” by Sunday night, though the original predictions aren’t panning out. We were supposed to run a St Paddy’s Day race Sunday morning, but it was already postponed to next weekend because of the forecast. Since we aren’t running tomorrow in the race, we made sure we got out this morning. Running in spring snow is one of…

{Running} 50 by 50

{Running} 50 by 50

Hubby and I were born just under two months apart (though, according to our moms, our due dates were the same day–he was early, and I was really really late). We will both be 50 years old this year and, in honor of that, we are working on some goals. I started running at 40ish; I was going through a divorce and started, stopped, and restarted the Couch to 5K app program to save my sanity. I wasn’t very serious…

{Running} Valentine’s Day 4 mile race

{Running} Valentine’s Day 4 mile race

Our race was supposed to take place on Valentine’s Day, last Sunday. The race was cancelled just after midnight that morning because the temperatures were low (0-1 degree) and the wind chill was -19 degrees. We’ve actually run a race in low temps before; in March of 2019, we ran That Dam Run 10k and half marathon in 0 degree weather at the start, a mere 10 degrees at the finish, and a little snow. At 19 degrees below 0…
