{Outdoor Life} Quandary Peak

{Outdoor Life} Quandary Peak

For hubby’s birthday this year, he wanted us to hike Quandary Peak with him. Four of our girls were available, so we spent the night in Breckenridge on the 22nd and hiked on the 23rd. We started just as the sun was rising—as did everyone else, the trailhead was very busy. This is one of the most climbed 14ers because the trailhead is easy access (like Bierstadt). It was slow going overall. My summer training wasn’t the best after the…

{Outdoor Life} highest point in North Dakota

{Outdoor Life} highest point in North Dakota

After running the Mickelson Trail Half (or should I say “plodding along”?) we had planned some fun family activities. One of those activities was conquering the highest point in North Dakota. It was a fun “highest point” as it was a whopping 357 foot climb and less than a mile. The trail is called White Butte and it’s a whopping 3,507 feet high. Since we live at 5,300 feet, it was still lower than our daily lives. The path was…

{outdoor life} canyon hike

{outdoor life} canyon hike

It was a little chilly (45 degrees) and very windy today, but once we climbed down into the canyon, it was very pleasant. We love hiking together, scrambling over rocks, and getting into nature. We finished 3.2 miles today—not one of our longer hikes, but it was really good to get out today. We didn’t get as many hikes with the girls this year, so it’s on our 2022 bucket list to take more hikes with the girls

My 50th Year

My 50th Year

Fifty was a great year, even with the craziness of government control and mass psychosis. We went on several road trips! We often fly when we vacation, but with the mandates, we really wanted nothing to do with it. Instead, we went to Ohio and visited Cedar Point (a bucket list item for my hubby) where the kids and hubby rode a bunch of roller coasters (my vertigo had just finally resolved completely and I wasn’t taking the chance of…

{Outdoor Life} warm Feb day

{Outdoor Life} warm Feb day

CO does have beautiful weather. We can have a really cold week of single digit temps, then a week of 50-60 degree weather. Yesterday, we had such a sunny warm day, we took a 4.8 mile walk into the state park. Tonight and tomorrow we have snow. We have yet to sled on our sledding hill nearby, so maybe we will get that chance.

{Outdoor Life} 2020 Bucket List Items Complete

January 2020: Dopey Challenge 4 races, 4 days, 48.6 miles We had planned this one for about a year and a half. I never actually thought I would do this; I had run the 2018 25th Disney World Marathon and it was my first 26.2. After finishing that race, the idea of running a marathon, after a half marathon, after a 10K, and after a 5K was daunting, but I decided it was “now or never.” It was hard work…

{Outdoor Life} Mountain Hike

{Outdoor Life} Mountain Hike

While my husband and daughter were snowboarding (a 16th birthday gift we were finally able to fulfill since the shutdowns by the government), my three youngest and I decided to take a nice hike in the snow. We found a small trail near our condo — not the one I had originally planned to hike, one I had run a couple years ago in training for a half marathon — but it was serendipity that we turned the wrong way….
