{Outdoor Life} Mountain Hike

While my husband and daughter were snowboarding (a 16th birthday gift we were finally able to fulfill since the shutdowns by the government), my three youngest and I decided to take a nice hike in the snow.

We found a small trail near our condo — not the one I had originally planned to hike, one I had run a couple years ago in training for a half marathon — but it was serendipity that we turned the wrong way. The trail we did find followed a small river, and it was obvious by the tracks that it’s popular with cross country skiers. I didn’t have my running watch with me, and it didn’t occur to me until about a mile into the walk I could start the Mapmyrun app for the mapping and distance. We logged 2.83 miles.

It turns out we were on Snake River, and it was such a beautiful walk. In some areas, the snow was knee deep, but on the main trail it was pretty easy to walk on top of the snow.

It was a little windy, but by the end of the hike, we were all sweaty and hot.
We hike quite a bit in the warmer weather, so it was nice to finally experience a hike in the winter. The girls are excited at the idea of cross-country skiing now.

Be sure to explore the great outdoors, even in the snow!
