{Field Experience} Young Eagles

This was the 6th year of the girls participating in Young Eagles. Each got a flight for about 20 minutes in a small plane for free as part of the program to help young people consider aviation.

They usually attend Ground School the night before and learn about aviation and physics of flight. Since they had attended Ground School five times before, they were allowed to skip it. It was a last-minute decision to join when their step-dad, who is the tower manager, learned that the current month wasn’t overwhelmed with students and they could join in.

We keep talking about joining Civil Air Patrol, perhaps it is time to get a little more serious about it. We had planned to sign them up when the madness of government restrictions started, so we’ve been waiting out the insanity hoping for some sense of normality, but so far it isn’t returning. In fact, after our flights, the EAA 301 chapter at our airport changed their requirements to constant masking indoors, so had we joined in the next month’s Young Eagles, we wouldn’t have participated.
