{Transition to Grey} 5 months

I really don’t see a big change this month. When I braid just the front of my hair, it is pretty obvious, but otherwise it seems more like my hair growth has slowed. I do know my hair is too long again–when I drive, it gets caught behind me and irritates me–so it IS growing, it just feels slow. It is definitely obvious to others, as I’m pretty sure a couple of women near my age were checking out my…

{Transition to Grey} 4 months

Time flies! It’s hard to believe it has already been 4 months since I stopped dyeing my hair. My girls have been great: they keep telling me how “cool” my hair looks. I have my moments about it–I would never decide to go back to the hair dye–but I doubt how good it will look when I’m done. I wish I had started this journey earlier last year, so that I could be done with the growth by my 50th…

{Transition to Grey} 3 months

Here I am at 3 months since my last dye job. I thought I would be miserable about it, but I really just love the freedom. I have since also dumped all of the chemical in shampoos and conditioners, and I’m working on the rest of our body products. In fact, I have my girls converted over to washable female products and they say they are so much more comfortable and absorbent. We ditched plastic many years ago when I…

I thought by now I would be hating my hair, but I am actually looking forward to the color change (without dye!). The transition is fascinating, seeing the changes and wondering what my final haircolor will look like. I’m also excited to have lighter hair overall at the end of this transition, and the ability to finally use the hair chalk for temporary day highlights. My hair has been dyed so dark, they just don’t work in my hair. Here…

It’s been about 9 weeks since my last color. I swear my hair grew faster when I was dyeing it and has now decided to slow down without the constant onslaught of chemicals. I bought a few hats/beanies to wear when it reaches a couple inches in new growth, but by then, it will be too warm to wear them. Hiding my demarcation line will become difficult. I still worry about how “old” I will look with my new grey…

(Life) Peri-menopause

I’m not even sure where to start. This isn’t a subject that gets mentioned often; in fact, I didn’t even know what it was until about fourteen months ago. I was 48, healthy, training for a big run series (48.6 miles in four days) and I suddenly found myself laying in bed with a racing heart and waves of heat. I have a great running watch that monitored my pulse; it was 85 resting in bed (high for me), and…

The last time I dyed my hair was just before Thanksgiving. I’ve been feeling uneasy about the chemicals used every month and I finally decided I’m done! After 30ish years of dying my hair, I am done. Here is progress after about 7 weeks of growth
