{Outdoor Life} Snowfall

It made for a really great sledding day today! The sled run by our house was pretty icy after the sunshine yesterday and overnight freeze, and made for some really fast sledding. Make sure you get outside today!

{Outdoor Life} snow storm

We thought we might get to run this morning, but there was already 7ish inches on the ground, so we shoveled instead. We are currently at about 13” of snow and it’s still falling. My oldest is at work, I am not sure how she will get home. Blessed Sunday! Stay warm.

{Outdoor Life} Spring Running

In Colorado, we get most of our snow in March and April, especially on the front range. The weather people are predicting 12-24” by Sunday night, though the original predictions aren’t panning out. We were supposed to run a St Paddy’s Day race Sunday morning, but it was already postponed to next weekend because of the forecast. Since we aren’t running tomorrow in the race, we made sure we got out this morning. Running in spring snow is one of…

{Transition to Grey} 3 months

{Transition to Grey} 3 months

Here I am at 3 months since my last dye job. I thought I would be miserable about it, but I really just love the freedom. I have since also dumped all of the chemical in shampoos and conditioners, and I’m working on the rest of our body products. In fact, I have my girls converted over to washable female products and they say they are so much more comfortable and absorbent. We ditched plastic many years ago when I…

{Running} 5 miles

{Running} 5 miles

I have 7 weeks until my next half marathon, and it’s tough getting back on track. Today was a rough 5 miles, but I had to get the mileage in. I’m supposed to run a 10K next weekend, and it’s going to be rough! The weather started a little chilly, and we had some snowflakes today, but I ended up warm by a mile into the run. The skies are pretty dark in the southwest, but by afternoon it was…

{Outdoor Life} warm Feb day

{Outdoor Life} warm Feb day

CO does have beautiful weather. We can have a really cold week of single digit temps, then a week of 50-60 degree weather. Yesterday, we had such a sunny warm day, we took a 4.8 mile walk into the state park. Tonight and tomorrow we have snow. We have yet to sled on our sledding hill nearby, so maybe we will get that chance.

{Science} When Science becomes Scientism

{Science} When Science becomes Scientism

The religion of science–what I call “Scientism”–has invaded our culture so deeply, I’m not sure how we come back from it. I’m sure you’ve heard it: “I believe in Science!” or “Trust the Science” or “Science is Real” or “Science Matters.” You can see these phrases in hashtags on every social media platform. But what does it mean? Usually the context of such hashtags are used any time what a person is referring to has been disputed by someone else….

{Running} 50 by 50

{Running} 50 by 50

Hubby and I were born just under two months apart (though, according to our moms, our due dates were the same day–he was early, and I was really really late). We will both be 50 years old this year and, in honor of that, we are working on some goals. I started running at 40ish; I was going through a divorce and started, stopped, and restarted the Couch to 5K app program to save my sanity. I wasn’t very serious…

{Running} Valentine’s Day 4 mile race

{Running} Valentine’s Day 4 mile race

Our race was supposed to take place on Valentine’s Day, last Sunday. The race was cancelled just after midnight that morning because the temperatures were low (0-1 degree) and the wind chill was -19 degrees. We’ve actually run a race in low temps before; in March of 2019, we ran That Dam Run 10k and half marathon in 0 degree weather at the start, a mere 10 degrees at the finish, and a little snow. At 19 degrees below 0…

{Outdoor Life} 2020 Bucket List Items Complete

January 2020: Dopey Challenge 4 races, 4 days, 48.6 miles We had planned this one for about a year and a half. I never actually thought I would do this; I had run the 2018 25th Disney World Marathon and it was my first 26.2. After finishing that race, the idea of running a marathon, after a half marathon, after a 10K, and after a 5K was daunting, but I decided it was “now or never.” It was hard work…
